How do I dispose of my product/packaging?Updated 8 months ago
We’re glad you’re thinking about sustainability! Each product page on our site provides specific disposal instructions, but here’s a quick breakdown of how to handle different types of packaging:
Composting: If you’re composting at home, cutting or shredding paper into smaller pieces helps it break down faster. For industrial composting, check with your local facility for guidelines. When composting packaging with ink, keep in mind that while non-toxic, vegetable-based, and soy-based inks are generally safe for compost, the pigments and additives in the ink may contain trace amounts of fossil fuel derivatives or heavy metals. This is usually not harmful, but if you’re using compost to grow food, you may want to recycle ink-saturated packaging instead.
Recycling: The key rule for recycling is to ensure all excess product is cleaned out and the packaging is dry. For paper tubes that may be saturated with oils, many recycling facilities won’t accept them. You can cut out the oil-stained part and compost it, then recycle the rest. For black plastic, it’s technically recyclable, but some local facilities may not accept it. In that case, we recommend using Terracycle for proper recycling.
We hope this helps you make the most sustainable choices when disposing of your packaging!
